Upon landing we picked up our car, found our home and headed out on foot to find food and explore the city a bit.

Breakfast isn’t much of a thing here so we weren’t finding much open yet but we did stumble upon a British-Azorean snack bar where for 3.5€ you got a bacon and egg sandwich and an espresso. The owner came to sit with us while we ate and filled us in on other places to visit. We told him we would be back to try his fish and chips before we left.
After a bit more walking, we headed back to our house for a nap before Mark had to begin work. He had a break in his meetings around the dinner hour so we headed out for an evening meal.
We are eating local during this trip and letting our servers recommend our meals. We chose A Tasca for our first dinner here and let our server choose our meal. He brought us Sautéed Mushrooms with bacon, spinach and cheese, Fried Octopus with plum sauce and Pork Cheeks with bread purée and fries. We shared a bottle of Azorean wine and a piece of pineapple cake for desert. It was fantastic!

Thankful we had a bit of a walk after our meal, we headed back for Mark to finish his work day. Walking here is a death-defying trek. The roads are very narrow cobblestone and the sidewalks are only about 18” between the buildings and cars zipping by. We are amazed pedestrians aren’t hit daily.
