Day 6 – Cascata do Salto do Prego

Today we wanted to explore the east side of the island. It’s the least populated and we went with no expectations other than a scouting trip.

The landscape was lush rolling hills.
Gorgeous water views.

We made our first stop in the town of Provoacao – a little fishing village.

Moving on we came across a hike we decided to do. Salto Do Prego. It was only a mile each way but some pretty steep areas to climb. The payoff was fantastic!!

The waterfall was surrounded by rock walls and enclosed by the tree canopy. It felt like you were inside.

A crazy little side note is there are wild chickens on this hike. They weren’t afraid of us at all.

No good meals to report as we had a hard time finding food today. Not much is on that side of the island. We found a snack shack who made us a sandwich but that was it for the day.

  1. so…if there are no restaurants to find food, what about grocery stores? Are those plentiful or do you have to drive a ways to find one?

    1. In the city, there are 2 real supermarkets. (SolMar and Continente). We have seen these stores in other areas too. Out east there weren’t any. There likely would have been a minimercado or maybe a fruit shop but I didn’t notice any. It’s very sparse out there but only an hour’s drive back. We had brought a couple power bars with us just in case which we were glad for. We tried to find food before our hike with no luck so the power bars got eaten.

Restaurants do exist on the eastern side but those we came across were not open.
