Pico Island was a little bit of a bust. The mountain was completely shrouded in fog and almost everything is closed on Sundays. We spent the day driving around the island and toured the whaling museum.

The wind was howling today at around 40-50 mph and we were afraid our flight would be cancelled. Heavy rain came in as well and our inbound flight was diverted to another island.
The adventure got bigger. The airline put us on a bus, took us to the ferry that took us to the island where our plane went.
The sea was rolling, windy and rainy and the ferry isn’t cozy like in Washington. You walked up the same ramp as the cars (with the car bridge lifting and slamming due to the big waves) and the ferry was open air.
We opted to go to the top level as the first 2 were crammed like sardines.

We made it to the airport only to find they used our plane for another flight. So we wait for another plane.
When we finally made it back to the airport at Ponta Delgada, we realized they took the plane straight to the hangar for the night. We had to take busses back to the airport.

11pm. Happily, we are back. Safe and sound. Looking forward to what tomorrow brings.
